Overall, the tech sector is navigating a mix of cautious investor sentiment and strategic corporate developments, with NVIDIA stock continuing to decline ahead of its earnings report on Wednesday—where investors are keen to hear about its Blackwell AI chip sales and projections—whereas Apple shares rose after announcing a $500B commitment to US AI manufacturing over the next four years, including an AI server factory in Texas.

😲 Anthropic launches AI industry first

Anthropic launches AI industry first

🚨 Our Report — After dropping hints last week, Amazon-backed start-up, Anthropic, has released the industry’s first “hybrid AI reasoning model”—Claude 3.7 Sonnet—which is designed to complete “real-world tasks” (like complex coding or creating legal documentation), and lets users choose whether they want the model to give quick, real-time answers to their questions, or think for longer and deliver more considered, ‘thought-out’ responses.

🔓 Key Points:

  • Claude 3.7 Sonnet performs better than its predecessors because—although it still lacks real-time web search data (like other models)—its knowledge cutoff was October 2024, meaning its responses are more up-to-date.

  • Anthropic has been using the model to analyze coding projects, build websites, and create interactive games, using an old PokĂŠmon video game to test its ability to “reason’’ its way through the levels.

  • In a more classic benchmark test—testing its ability to interact with users—Claude 3.7 Sonnet scored 81.2% (OpenAI’s o1 scored 73.5%), and Anthropic said it’s also reduced “unnecessary refusals” by 45%.

🔐 Relevance — In addition to the launch of its first hybrid AI model, Anthropic has also released a “limited research preview” of an agentic coding tool—Claude Code—pitching it as an “active collaborator that can search and read code, edit files, write and run tests, commit and push code to GitHub, and use command line tools,” as it moves towards providing users with a more simplistic experience—essentially building one model that can do it all—which is a similar approach to OpenAI, who announced earlier this month that they were canceling the anticipated release of its newest reasoning model, o3, in favor of a more ‘unified,’ “simplified” product offering.

😶 Musicians protest AI with ‘silent’ album

Musicians protest AI with silent album

🚨 Our Report — A group of over 1,000 musicians (including Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, and Billy Ocean) have released a silent album— “Is This What We Want?”—to protest against planned changes to UK copyright laws, which would make it easier for AI companies to train AI models using musicians' copyrighted work, without permission or giving them compensation, unless they proactively opt-out.

🔓 Key Points:

  • The album’s 12 tracks, which spell out the message: “The British Government Must Not Legalize Music Theft To Benefit AI Companies,” feature recordings of silent, empty studios and performance spaces.

  • Designed as a symbolic representation of what will happen to the music industry if the planned copyright laws go ahead, all the proceeds from album sales will go to the “Help Musicians” charity.

  • It comes after Sir Paul McCartney slammed the UK Government back in January for allowing big tech companies to "rip-off" technology that might make it impossible for musicians and artists to make a living.

🔐 Relevance — Similar protests are happening across the globe, as over 200 American artists, including Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Stevie Wonder, signed an open letter in April last year calling for a ban on the "predatory" use of AI in the music industry.

🏄 Perplexity reinventing the web browser?

  • AI search engine start-up Perplexity has revealed that it’s working on an AI-powered web browser—called Comet—which will be able to perform “agentic searches.”

  • The browser will reportedly be able to search the web in real-time, locate information, understand more complex instructions, perform tasks, and make autonomous decisions.

  • Perplexity hasn’t given us many other details, instead teasing that “just like we reinvented search, we’re also reinventing the browser…stay tuned for updates,” telling users to join a sign-up list to use it.

TOGETHER WITH INCOGNI

You’ve likely received a sketchy call, text, or email asking for $$$. It might've been easy to spot, but with deepfakes and AI, scams are getting trickier.

Unlike others, Incogni deletes your info from all broker types, including people search sites where anyone can get your details for a few bucks.
