RISK

Our Report: 56% of Fortune 500 companies see AI as a potential risk to their business, a massive jump from just 9% who saw AI as a risk, in 2022 (the year ChatGPT was released).
π Key Points:
The AI risks, cited by these firms, include issues around law, regulations, cybersecurity, competition, and ethics, and those in media and entertainment are the most fearful, with 91% concerned about AI.
Netflix thinks that competitors deploying AI will affect its "ability to compete effectively," and Disney believes how it creates entertainment will be severely impacted as "rules governing new technology remain unsettled.β
86% of software and technology companies, two-thirds of telecommunications companies, and over half of Fortune 500 healthcare, banking, retail, consumer, and aerospace companies see AI as harmful.
π€ Why you should care: In just two, short years, the percentage of companies that see AI as a way to create cost efficiencies, increase productivity, and accelerate innovation has dropped, with just 30% of the Fortune 500 now seeing AI as a benefit.
What do you think, and why: Is AI a risk or a benefit for businesses?

DESIGN
π₯ Design app fights AI in shock twist

Our Report: The popular iPad design app, Procreate, has gone against the crowdβwhich includes Adobe, Canva, and othersβand defiantly announced that, while AI is a βcompelling technology with a lot of merit,β it will not be introducing generative AI features into its products, ever.
π Key Points:
Itβs reassured users that it will not use AI in its products, user activity on the app will not be tracked, and it will not use artists' work to train and implement AI tools (unlike othersβ¦ahem.. Adobe).
In a video, posted to X (formerly Twitter), Procreate CEOβJames Cudaβboldly stated βI really f****** hate generative AIβ¦I donβt like whatβs happening in the industry, and I donβt like what itβs doing to artists.β
Apart from the odd comment about Procreateβs decision being βshortsightedβ, the majority of Artists have praised Procreateβs bold stance, with many saying theyβre βincredibly happyβ and will βenjoy using it more.β
π€ Why you should care: This time last year, Procreateβs announcement wouldβve been professional suicide, and although theyβve acknowledged thereβs a βrisk of being left behindβ, they are firm in their decision about βnot chasing a technology that is a threat to human creativity,β and it will be interesting to see if other design apps, from the likes of Adobe and Canva, follow suit, after launching several AI tools and features in recent months, which have faced both backlash and praise.

SAFETY
ποΈ Altmanβs iris scanning banned
Worldcoin (founded by OpenAIβs CEO, Sam Altman) which aims to scan the irises of every human in the world to distinguish them from robots for crypto payments, is under scrutiny from worldwide governments.
Itβs already been banned in Hong Kong, blocked in Spain, fined in Argentina, criminally investigated in Kenya, and is being questioned as to whether it can continue to operate in the EU.
Government concerns include how Worldcoin handles user data, trains its algorithms, and avoids scanning children, although Worldcoin insists its tech is private and that iris codes contain no personal information.

ACQUISITIONS
π‘ AMDβs $4.9B AI power move
AI chipmakerβAMDβis acquiring AI infrastructure company, ZT Systems, for $4.9B, to boost its position as an βecosystemβ partner for companies building AI businesses and compete more aggressively with rival, NVIDIA.
AMD plans to sell ZT Systems data center infrastructure manufacturing to βstrategic partners,β and said the acquisition will give it deeper expertise in AI systems design and will help it sell more of its chips.
As AI systems grow more complex, a big priority for big tech companies is to increase the efficiency of their systems for tasks like AI model training, so this marks a major step in AMDβs long-term AI strategy.
