Meta splits up AI team

🚨 Our Report

Meta is splitting its AI department into two specialized teams (The AI Products team and the AGI Foundations unit) to bridge the gap between short-term user needs and long-term AI breakthroughs and also speed up product development.

🔓 Key Points

  • The AI Products team will develop short-term, user-facing AI features, like personalized AI chatbots and content/image creation tools, across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and its AI app.

  • The AGI Foundations unit will focus on the bigger picture and work on Meta’s core AI technologies, including the advancement of its Llama models, and its reasoning, voice, and multimodal capabilities.

  • No job cuts have been made—Meta is just realigning its resources for maximum impact—and its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) department will remain separate, and continue its long-term, exploratory research.

🔐 Relevance

Meta has undoubtedly reorganized its AI division to maintain a competitive edge as the likes of OpenAI, DeepSeek, and Mistral speed ahead with innovations. It also comes after its latest release (Llama 4) got disappointing reviews; it was forced to delay the launch of its major “Behemoth” model due to concerns about its capabilities, and it recently lost 11 key developers to rival, Mistral. All this has led to concerns about Meta’s ability to maintain a competitive edge in the industry. To address these concerns, alongside the strategic restructuring, Meta has also recently launched a start-up program to encourage fledgling businesses to use Meta’s models and announced several AI features at its LamaCon event, designed to showcase its competitiveness.

How Amazon used AI to save $10B

  • Amazon turned to AI after facing workforce limitations, operational delays, and increasing customer demands.

  • Outdated systems and manual fulfilment made real-time order processing costly and too slow for next-day delivery expectations.

  • They introduced AI demand forecasting to improve supply chain processes, and AI automation to help with manual order fulfilment.

  • As a result, supply chain speed increased by 75%, fulfilment overheads were cut by 25%, and Amazon is set to save $10B by 2030.

  3. Hoox generates videos in seconds with AI

  • Anthropic is rolling out a voice mode feature, in beta, for its Claude chatbot mobile apps, which will enable users to “speak to Claude and hear its responses,” meaning they can have two-way chats with the chatbot.

  • The voice feature comes with five different voices to choose from and works with Google Workspace apps (for paying users), so users can talk about documents, calendar items, emails, and images.

  • Users can switch from voice to text whenever they like and will get a conversation transcript and summary after the chat has ended, with non-paying users getting up to 30 conversations for nothing.

  • After a year of denial, CRM platform Salesforce has finally announced the acquisition of AI data management firm Informatica (for $8B) to strengthen its AI and data infrastructure capabilities.

  • Salesforce will integrate Informatica’s AI-powered data management tools to “create the most complete, agent-ready data platform in the industry,” and help its AI agents run “safely, responsibly, and at scale.”

  • This comes after Salesforce acquired ‘Own,’ a data protection company, in September, to provide “data protection and management solutions” for its customers, further proving its dedication to developing safe AI at scale.
