🚀 Musk launches “SuperGrok”

Musk launches “SuperGrok”

🚨 Our Report — After failing to launch last year, as expected, Elon Musk’s AI start-up, xAI, has finally launched its latest chatbot and successor to Grok 2, Grok 3—which is actually a family of AI models, which includes a mini version of the Grok chatbot (Grok 3 mini) and a deep reasoning model that can “think” through problems, similar to OpenAI’s o-series and DeepSeek’s R1—introducing it as “the smartest AI on Earth,” as it provides more accurate, contextually relevant responses.

🔓 Key Points:

  • Grok’s reasoning capabilities will power a new feature—DeepSearch (similar to OpenAI’s, Perplexity’s, and Google’s deep research tools)—which will be accessible to “SuperGrok’ subscribers for $30p/m.

  • Musk says “Grok 3 is more capable than Grok 2,” and is a “maximally truth-seeking AI” as it’s been trained with 10X more computing power, using a data set that includes filings from court cases.

  • He also stated that it beat OpenAI’s GPT-4o on benchmarks including AIME (which evaluates how it answers math questions) and GPQA (which assesses how it handles PhD-level physics, biology, and chemistry problems).

🔐 Relevance — When Musk first launched Grok—two years ago—he pitched it as “edgy, unfiltered, and anti-woke,” which, with its vulgar language and shocking responses, it perhaps was, but many felt it leaned to the political left on topics relating to equality and diversity, which Musk blamed on the data it was trained on and pledged to make newer versions more politically neutral, but although Grok 3 has been trained on “a more expanded dataset”, Musk has warned that Grok 3’s truth will sometimes be “at odds with what is politically correct.”

📰 NYT’s AI U-Turn?

NYT’s AI U-Turn?

🚨 Our Report — In a somewhat surprising U-Turn, The New York Times (NYT), which previously promised that its “journalism will always be reported, written and edited by our expert journalists,” has approved a set of AI tools that its newsroom and editorial teams can use to help with writing, editing, and summarizing information.

🔓 Key Points:

  • In a new set of editorial guidelines, staff were told they would get AI training and have access to an internal AI tool—called Echo—for summarizing articles and briefings and creating copy for social and SEO.

  • The guidelines also encouraged journalists to use AI tools for brainstorming ideas, research, suggesting edits/revisions to their writing, developing FAQs, or coming up with questions to ask during interviews.

  • Despite the encouragement, editorial staff were also told not to use AI to draft or “significantly” alter articles, add copyrighted materials, or publish AI-generated images or videos without “explicit labeling.”

🔐 Relevance — The NYT’s change in attitude towards AI comes as The Times continues its lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft for using its copyrighted content to train ChatGPT, without permission, and also comes as many other newsrooms are starting to include AI as part of their processes.

🧠 Is GPT-4.5 almost AGI?

  • OpenAI’s CEO (and Musk's arch-enemy) Sam Altman, announced that its latest model—GPT4.5—which is expected to launch any day now, is the closest thing we have to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

  • High-level testers of GPT-4.5 have described their experiences of using the model as a “feel the AGI” moment, which suggests it’s more intuitive than its predecessors, with more human-like, cognitive abilities.

  • Despite this breakthrough, Altman also confirmed that the new model will not include the “Voice Mode” feature, but it might be integrated in the future, as “it’s super important for future products.”
