š AI STOCK TRACKER
AI and tech stocks plunged lower to start the week amid mounting bearish sentiment. Over the weekend, reports indicated that many hedge funds placed large short positions against the US economy. This surge in bearish bets, combined with Trumpās announcement of new tariffs, has significantly heightened market volatility, adding to investor uncertainty and stirring widespread concern across the tech sector.

š OpenAIās future plans leaked?

šØ Our Report ā A new US trademark applicationāfiled by OpenAIāalludes to a new flurry of product lines that could be developed soon or could, at this stage, just be pie-in-the-sky speculative ideas.
š Key Points:
The application lists hardware including headphones, goggles, glasses, laptop and mobile cases, smartwatches, smart jewelry, and VR/AR headsets āfor AI-assisted interaction, simulation, and training.ā
It also mentions āuser-programmableā humanoid robots for āassisting and entertaining peopleā, and custom AI chips and services for āleveraging quantum computing resources to optimize AI model performance.ā
This comes after OpenAI confirmed it was working with ex-Apple designerāJony Iveāon consumer hardware, it recently began hiring a robotics team, and opened a division focused on developing chip components.
š Relevance ā Trademark applications are sometimes broad and donāt always reflect a companyās roadmapāoften just hinting at possibilities and potentialsāso this isnāt indicative of OpenAIās true plans, but they do appear to have set the ball rolling with the various partnerships and departments theyāve set up within the year, and it was reported, last week, that they are in talks with Softbank to raise $40B (although $18B of that is possibly earmarked for Trumpās Stargate project).
Will OpenAI release everything mentioned in the application? |

ā Meta refuses to build risky AI

šØ Our Report ā Meta has released a new policy documentācalled the āFrontier AI Frameworkāāwhich is a three-stage process that outlines its approach to developing AI systems that are thought to be high or critical risk.
š Key Points:
The framework involves anticipating risks, evaluating them (eg. a "critical risk" would result in an āunmanageable catastrophic outcomeā), and deciding whether to release, restrict, or halt the model, as a result.
Meta uses a team of internal/external researchers across multiple disciplinesāincluding engineering and policyāto evaluate and classify the risks, and these classifications are then reviewed by senior-level decision-makers.
If a system is ācritical-riskā, Meta will halt development and restrict access to prevent data theft, if itās āhigh-riskā it will limit internal access and delay release until risk-reducing measures are taken.
š Relevance ā Metaās new framework focuses on large-scale risksālike cybersecurity threats and risks from chemical and biological weaponsāas Meta feels that, by prioritizing these areas, it ācan protect national security while promoting innovation,ā and it follows similar steps from others in the industry, including OpenAI who releases system cards for each of its models, which outline its safety and security activities, and Anthropic who have a āResponsible Scaling Policyā which outlines the technical and organizational protocols that the company is adopting to āmanage risks of developing increasingly capable AI systems.ā

šø Beatles land Grammy with AI track
The Beatles have secured their 8th Grammy for āBest Rock Performanceā for their 2023 track āNow and Thenāāwhich was made with AIābeating Green Day, Pearl Jam, The Black Keys, Idles, and St. Vincent.
āNow and Thenā was put together using a demo recorded by John Lennon in the ā70s, with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr finalizing the track in 2021 using an ML technology that cleaned up Lennon's recording.
McCartney was quick to confirm that AI wasnāt used to mimic Lennon's vocals: āNothing has been artificially or synthetically created. Itās all real, and we all play on it,ā they simply ācleaned up some existing recordingsā using AI.
