🚀 Trump allies fuel US AI development?

🚨 Our Report — President-elect, Donald Trump, has announced that United Arab Emirates (UAE) property developer, tycoon, and close business partner—Hussain Sajwani—will invest $20B, over the next several years, to build new data centers across the US, an amount that—according to Trump—could eventually “somewhat more than double.”

🔓 Key Points:

  • Sajwani has shown his alliance with Trump by building the Trump Golf Club in Dubai, contributing $5M to Trump's presidential campaign, and paying a multimillion-dollar licensing fee to the Trump Organization.

  • The $20B multi-year project will start in 2025 and “support massive new data centers” in Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Texas to “keep America on the cutting edge of technology and AI.”

  • Over the next five years, an estimated $1T will be spent on US data centers, but experts say foreign investments, like this and the $100B one, made by investor Masayoshi Son, will be key to boosting US AI competitiveness.

🔐 Relevance — Although this does sound promising, similar deals with Trump have previously fizzled out: As an example, Taiwanese manufacturer, Foxconn pledged to spend $10B building a tech manufacturing company in Milwaukee in 2017, under the Trump administration, but within months they’d scaled back their plans, creating just 1,000 jobs instead of the 13,000, expected from the project.

 🤑 Anthropic: 5th most valuable start-up?

Anthropic 5th most valuable start-up?

🚨 Our Report — Anthropic—AI start-up and makers of ChatGPT rival, Claude—is reportedly about to close a $2B funding round, led by VC firm, Lightspeed Venture Partners, with a valuation that makes it the 5th most valuable US start-up.

🔓 Key Points:

  • If successful, the deal would value Anthropic at $60B and would bring the total amount of funding raised to $15.7B, since it was founded by former OpenAI execs (and siblings) Dario and Daniela Amodei, in 2021.

  • Included in these investments is a $2B one from Google in 2023 and a $4B one from Amazon (in the same year), which it doubled in November, in exchange for becoming Anthropic’s AI infrastructure partner.

  • Following the release of Claude 3.5 Sonnet in June, Anthropic announced plans to launch an even better version, Claude 3.5 Opus, in the future, which experts believe is what this new funding is for.

🔐 Relevance — Anthropics’ (whose annualized revenue is around $875M, OpenAI’s is around $3.37B, for context) $60B valuation is three times the valuation it received last year and makes it the 5th most valuable US startup after SpaceX, OpenAI, Stripe, and Databricks, and comes as AI start-ups are being forced to raise more and more fund to support the development of costly AI technology, with OpenAI raising $6.6B in October, and Elon Musk’s Ai start-up, xAI, raising $6B in November, with reports that a record $197B was spent on AI start-ups throughout 2024.

🪙 Amazon invests $11B in Georgia

  • Amazon’s cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), is reportedly about to invest (at least) $11B in Georgia to expand its data centers and support AI infrastructure development.

  • This is expected to create around 550 jobs in the state and comes eight months after it pledged to invest $11B into data center infrastructure in Indiana, creating at least 1,000 jobs.

  • Georgia is a popular site for data centers (data center construction in the region has increased by 76% y/o/y) thanks to the city’s affordable electricity, existing fiber-optic infrastructure, and state tax incentives.
