UAE AI Writes Laws

🚨 Our Report

The United Arab Emirates is preparing to become the first country in the world to use AI to help write its national legislation. The Ministry of State for Artificial Intelligence is partnering with the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the UAE’s Office of Legal Affairs to pilot the system, which will use large language models to draft and review federal laws. The initiative is already underway and expected to be operational within months.

🔓 Key Points

  • The UAE’s AI minister, Omar Sultan Al Olama, said the system will be trained on the country’s legal corpus and will assist in drafting, reviewing, and proposing new laws, with human oversight remaining central.

  • The project is being developed in collaboration with local and international AI companies, and will include a feedback loop from legal experts to fine-tune the model’s outputs.

  • Al Olama emphasized that AI will not replace lawmakers or legal experts, but will serve as a tool to improve speed, consistency, and clarity in the legislative process.

🔐 Relevance

This is the first known attempt by a national government to integrate generative AI directly into the legislative process. If successful, it could reshape how laws are written—not just in the UAE, but globally. The move signals a shift from AI as a tool for productivity or creativity to one that could influence the foundational rules of society.

🚨 Our Report

Amazon's marketplace has been inundated with AI-generated political books about Canadian politicians ahead of the April 28 election. At least 30 titles about Prime Minister Mark Carney appeared this year, with 16 published in March alone—five on a single day. Most were removed after Bloomberg News inquiries.

🔓 Key Points

  • One prolific author, James A. Powell, published at least three books about Carney, which Amazon later removed.

  • Some authors are exceptionally productive: Antoine Loiseau published 146 books after his February release about Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre, while Alex Bugeja (founder of AI Book Creator) has published over 550 titles on various subjects.

  • Canadian election officials have already raised concerns about foreign interference and fake news, with China-backed networks reportedly using platforms like WeChat to push stories about candidates.

🔐 Relevance

Unlike social media misinformation that may be quickly flagged, these books carry the perceived authority of published works while potentially containing factual errors or misleading narratives. As AI tools become more accessible, we're witnessing the industrialization of content creation that can overwhelm content moderation systems and blur the line between genuine insight and automated output.

  • Grok Vision enables users to upload images or point their smartphone camera at objects, signs, or documents and ask the chatbot specific questions about what is visible.

  • The new vision feature rolled out on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, and is initially accessible to users within the Grok app on iOS devices.

  • In addition to Grok Vision, xAI also launched multilingual audio and real-time search functions for Grok's voice mode, though these specific updates require a SuperGrok subscription ($30 per month) for Android users.
